The recalled products have been linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Paratyphi B illnesses that were determined to be caused by the consumption of contaminated tempeh. The recalled Starter Yeast products were distributed throughout the USA and internationally through direct mail orders, and also were distributed in Australia, Canada, Slovenia, New Zealand, Brunei, Darussalam, Poland and Croatia.
