Illumina has been awarded a five-year contract worth up to $17m from the US FDA to provide equipment for conducting whole genome analysis of all strains, species and products.
The MiSeq sequencing systems and reagents will help the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collect data to source tracking Salmonella that may be involved in future produce-related outbreaks, said Illumina.
The company said its possible to sequence most bacterial genomes for less than $100 per sample, with its Nextera XT
