In MY 2016/17, most of Japans hamburger chains reported increased sales compared to the previous MY. In addition to hamburger chains, family restaurants, diners, and even sushi restaurants served french fries as a side dish and contributed to increased consumption (see Market trends).
Given the growth in fast food and family restaurant sales, Japans consumption of frozen potato products increased 6.6 percent to 397,092 MT in MY 2016/17.
