White sugar delivered against the expired August futures contract on NYSE Liffe in London amounted to 5,086 contracts, according to figures on the exchanges website.
Each contract represents 50 metric tons of the sweetener, equating to 254,300 metric tons in total. Thats more than double the 107,300 tons delivered against the August futures last year and compares with 40,000 tons for the May delivery. The August futures expired July 16 at $450.20 a ton.
