The US Department of Agriculture said 86 percent of the corn crop was in the silking stage as of Aug. 4, up from 71 percent the previous week but down three percentage points from 89 percent as the 2008-2012 average.
The most recent Crop Progress report also said that 18 percent of the crop was in the dough stage as of Aug. 4, up from 8 percent in the previous week but down from 31 percent as the five-year average.
