The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has reported that mad cow disease has been confirmed in a dairy cow in California, the first case in the US since 2006. However, the authorities assured that the meat from the cow did not enter the food supply.
USDA chief veterinary officer John Clifford said the case was atypical and that there was no cause for alarm from the animal.
The USDA has begun informing authorities at the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) as well as US trading partners,
